TRiO isn't actually an acronym for anything. It was first introduced in the 1960s to create educational opportunities and help end the cycle of poverty. Three programs were first created and federally funded: Talent Search, Upward Bound, and Student Support Services. TRiO is coined from the original 3 federally funded programs that were created. Now there are 8 TRiO programs.
